We should begin with "the Historic Center of Macau" when walking around Macau. Passing the yellow walls and green details, stepping along the special tiny lanes, you will experience the impressions of gracious and simple life in Macau, and then you will see Chinese temples, traditional mansions and the peaceful churches which make you feel that you were in the old times of Macau. The culture of more than 400 years gently blends with the whole city.
The Historic Center of Macau’ was inscribed on the World Heritage List on 15th July, 2005, making it the 31st designated World Heritage site in China. The year of 2006 is also considered as "The Year of Macau World Heritage 2006". The Macau Historic Center’ is mainly about the city’s historic settlement linking with nearby squares and streets. The best start is from Senado Square which is paved with black and grey stones forming wavy walking streets, along which, you will find different two or three storey European buildings and multicolored walls……the end of this area is St. Dominic’s Church, which was built by the Spanish in 1590. There is exhibition of ‘Treasure of Sacred Art’ inside St. Dominic’s Church, showing you over 300 religional artworks, demonstrating the history of Catholicism development in Asia. Along Rua de S. Paulo, Ruins of S. Paul’s is ahead of you. Standing on both sides of St. Paul’s Ruins are Mount Fortress and Section of the Old City Walls as well as the Na Tcha Temple. As you move left way into Rua de Santo Antonio, you will see St. Anthony’s Church and Camoes Square, on its right direction is Casa Garden and Protestant Cemetery. On the other hand, Guia Fortress, lighthouse and Chapel of Our Lady of Guia, which are located on the highest point of Macau -- Guia Hill, witnessing quietly the changes of Macau in the previous hundreds of years.

It is the oldest, largest, and most integrated and the most concentrated historic center in China territory. You can follow your own preferences in exploring and enjoying the South European bliss of Macau.
